Support the Coastal Bend Pride Center by participating in its 2nd annual Rainbow Run/Walk 5K! This event will take place at 7 a.m. at Cole Park Saturday, June 1. Online registration is now open! ❤️

Online ticket sales close at 5 p.m. on May 31. Tickets will be available for purchase in person at the event at 6 a.m., one hour prior to the race start time. 🧡

Tickets are $25 for entry into the race, and $40 for entry into the race and a Rainbow Run/Walk T-shirt. T-shirt tickets will close on May 27 in order to get the shirts ordered on time. Extra t-shirts will be sold at the event. 💛

Wear your flashiest rainbow attire for the run! The Pride Center wants to celebrate Pride Month by showing our rainbow colors as we run! All proceeds for this event will directly fund the Coastal Bend Pride Center. 💚

While last night was a solemn evening, paying respect to Nex Benedict in Corpus Christi was a beautiful way for our community to unite.

Pride Corpus Christi is thankful the community showed up and spoke their truths, shared their feelings and opened up about their frustration.

About the vigil, our president, Jonathan Swindle, said, “One person said it really gave them hope when they had not felt the feeling in a long time.”

We had many speakers last night, and we want to thank them all for speaking. We also had Jim Klein and Sylvia Campos in attendance, which is great to have representation for our city council during a time where our community was grieving the loss of such a young and innocent person.

Recently, a tragic event took the life of 16-year-old Nex Benedict, a nonbinary youth from Oklahoma, who was brutally assaulted in a high school bathroom at Owasso High School. Nex succumbed to their injuries and passed away the following day, leaving the community and the nation in mourning. This senseless act of violence is not only a profound loss but a stark reminder of the dangers that hate and intolerance pose to our LGBTQ+ youth.

Further compounding this tragedy is the involvement of the “Libs of TikTok” account (run by Chaya Raichik), which had targeted Owasso High School prior to this incident. The account’s far-right and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric has contributed to a climate of hostility and fear, underscoring the urgent need for us to stand in solidarity and advocate for a world where love and acceptance prevail over hate.

In response to this heart-wrenching event, we are organizing a vigil this Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church to honor Nex’s memory, offer support to those grieving, and take a stand against the far-right narrative that seeks to divide us.

Together, we can send a message of love, hope, and unity. If you are able, we invite you to join in this solemn occasion, to comfort one another, and to reaffirm our dedication to a future where every individual can live authentically and free from fear.

Last night was a blast at our first Pride Trivia Night!

We had eight teams (Daughters of Bilitis, Jam, The Glory Hoes, House of Celebutante, Frog & Toad, The Femme Fatales, The Incorrigible Sodomites, and The Chipmunks) all competing to place first, second, or third place.

In the end, The Chipmunks came in third, The Glory Hoes in second and The Incorrigible Sodomites took home the grand prize.

We want to give another grateful thank you to all the businesses that donated prizes for this fun event. And we will host another one in the coming months!

We also announced a special surprise to those in attendance last night, and we will make a formal announcement soon 😉

Next week on Tuesday the 20th, we will host our inaugural Pride Trivia Night at Alamo Drafthouse!

We reached out to several local businesses and are very honored to announce our first, second and third place prizes all have a worth of $1,250!

We want to give a huge shoutout to these local businesses and thank them for their generosity.

We hope you all will be in attendance next week at 7 p.m. for the fun! Remember, it’s a free event and there will be plenty of food and drinks you can purchase at the theater.

From surviving a zombie apocalypse to trying to escape the Underworld, these seven video games feature at least one LGBTQIA+ character.

Our Vice President, Robert Kymes, was able to attend the annual @usaprides conference in Las Vegas over the weekend.

“There were so many Prides represented at USAP and it was incredible to network with them and share ideas on activism, hear their struggles with homophobia and how they address it, and celebrate their amazing successes at their events and Pride parades of all sizes,” Robert said. “Thank you to the USAP board for making this possible by awarding me a scholarship to attend!”

Robert took a lot of notes from the conference and has shared with the rest of the board. We will be implanting what he learned within Pride Corpus Christi and can’t wait to reach a larger audience while remaining loyal to you all!

We are going to put you to the test next month at Alamo Drafthouse for our inaugural Pride Trivia Night!

Starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, groups of two to five people will compete in rounds full of pride trivia to win. The top three teams will receive prizes from local Corpus Christi businesses.

There is no need for signing up beforehand, as we will do that at the event and sort people in groups if there are some solos. As well, no fees to participate but we will have a donation station for those wanting to help out Pride Corpus Christi’s future events.

World AIDS Day has been observed on December 1 every year since 1988 and serves as a reminder of the global struggle to end HIV-related stigma. It’s an opportunity to honor those we have lost, and is also a rallying cry to commit to working toward a day when HIV is no longer a public health threat.

Today, reiterated by new guidance from the World Health Organization, we know that Undetectable = Unstransmittable which equals Zero Risk. Meaning, people diagnosed with HIV, who remain on proper and consistent medication and treatment to keep the HIV virus down to an undetectable level on lab tests, cannot transmit the virus and as a result, carry zero risk of spreading the virus to others.

There are numerous ways to get involved with World AIDS Day this year, by learning the facts and putting the knowledge into action. Another way to show support for those living with HIV/AIDS is by wearing the signature red ribbon today ♥️

$Transgender Day of Remembrance is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28, 1998, launched the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco vigil the following year. These 26 names are only a fraction of our transgender family that were identified and reported this year in the United States. The event provides a forum for transgender communities and allies to raise awareness of the threat of violence faced by gender variant people and the persistence of prejudice felt by the transgender community. On every continent, transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming persons confront violence, harassment, and discrimination simply based on their gender identity or expression. Transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming persons have always been a part of our families, cultures, and nations. As we mourn the transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming persons who have paid the ultimate price for others’ hatred, we honor their memory by continuing the fight for a world free of transphobic and gender-based violence and discrimination. Every year between Nov. 13 through Nov. 19, people and organizations around the country participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help increase the understanding about transgender people and the issues the community faces.

As the week nears its end, Pride Corpus Christi wants to remind everyone that transgender awareness should not just be limited to a week — but to every day.

Be sure to reach out to the Coastal Bend Trans Alliance, Corpus Christi LGBT, Trans Justice Funding Project, Coastal Bend Pride Center and us for any resources or help you may need.

And be sure to attend the 8th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance Memorial & Vigil at Grace Church next Monday at 7 p.m. to pay honor and respect to transgender individuals who were taken from us too soon.

Growing up as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community as a teenager was rough for most of us.

We’d get bullied routinely and didn’t have a lot of people to turn to at times for support.

Join the Coastal Bend Pride Center for a night of celebration and festivities at the inaugural Coastal Bend Pride Center Gayla!

This event will take place at the Omni Hotel in downtown Corpus Christi on Friday, Oct. 20.

Guest entertainers will be the Howl at the Moon dueling piano company, and the evening will also include dinner and a silent auction.

With the Gayla, the center will create a one of a kind scholarship program for incoming college freshmen to masters level students by raising funds for a $5000 or $2500 scholarship provided by the Coastal Bend Pride Center.

Funds for this program will come directly from the inaugural Coastal Bend Pride Center Gayla through donations, corporate sponsorships, ticket sales, and silent auction sales.

The center is actively seeking community sponsors at all levels from $500 to $10,000 for this event! Please contact Robert Kymes, Pride Center Assistant Director and Pride Corpus Christi Vice President, for sponsorship details via email (robertk@cbwellness.org) or by phone (361-557-7433).

Today is National Coming Out Day and it’s a day that has grown to become easier for people.

Being in the LGBTQIA+ community has become more of a social norm and people have started to become more accepting to acknowledging people’s sexual orientation and identity.

While coming out may still be a little scary, it’s a freeing moment.

We are over the moon to announce our two surprise performers, Brittany Andrews and Honey Andrews! 👑

These two talented beauties are well-known in the Lone Star State and they are amazing representatives of Corpus Christi.

Brittany Andrews is the owner and operator of Brittany’s Diva Brunch and Lip Glozz, INC Entertainment. She also is the current reigning Miss Texas Riviera, the director of public relations with Corpus Christi LGBT, ambassador to the Transgender Universe 2019, Imperial Crown Princess Royale for Life with the Royal Sovereign Imperial Court of the Texas Riviera Empire, Coastal Bend liaison to Trans Justice Funding Project, co-facilitator of the Coastal Bend Trans Alliance, ambassador for the #beHuman Campaign, producer of the Pride Diva Showcase, and Miss Gay Corpus Christi USofA 2001.

Honey Andrews is best known for her jaw-dropping impersonation of the Queen of Tejano, Selena. She has been included in several publications including the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, San Antonio Current, Cosmopolitan, HuffPost, Vice, Texas Standard, Texas Monthly, and more. She is a former Miss Gay Harris County USofA 2013, Miss Gay Universe 2020, Miss Texas Continental 2013, Miss Gay Shining Star USofA 2017, Miss Latina Universe 2019, and Miss Gay Corpus Christi USofA 2011.

The two will be on stage at our Block Party from 8:25 to 9 p.m. Saturday. We can’t wait to see everyone there!

Just a reminder, the parade will start at 4 p.m. on Shoreline Boulevard near the Art Center of Corpus Christi. It will finish at the end of Water’s Edge Park.

At 5 p.m., the Block Party will start at the park on the Great Lawn (where the Christmas Tree is at during the winter holidays).

There will be plenty of local vendors, live music from local artists, local drag entertainers, and a surprise entertainer we will announce soon! 👀

There will be a kid’s area ran by the Coastal Bend Pride Center and partners as well.

If you’re wondering what time certain performers will go on, we will be posting the schedule tomorrow!

Having a parent, guardian, or older family member accept you for who you are and love you unconditionally is one of the greatest feelings in the world. Because of that, our Grand Marshal this year is Parents with Pride.

We know not every parent is accepting right away, and some may take a bit longer to learn to come to terms with who you are, but when you get that moment, it’s amazing.

So, thank you to all the moms, dads, step-parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles who love us unconditionally and support us for who we truly are.

We can’t wait to see them lead our Pride Parade next week!

We are so excited to have all these talented entertainers take our stage at our Block Party Saturday, October 7!

The party will be from 5 to 10 p.m. at Water’s Edge Park on the Great Lawn.

Our musical guests include @honjabee, @cat.the.tommy, and @moniqmusic 💚💙💜

We are thrilled to inform you that the applications for our October 7th Pride Parade and Block Party are now live!

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be a part of an unforgettable celebration of LGBTQIA+ equality and human rights in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend.

The Pride Parade and Block Party will take place on Shoreline Boulevard. Following the parade, the block party will be held at the Great Lawn on Water’s Edge.
